The sighting review time varies widely. Some submitters receive an e-mail confirmation (or rejection) within a matter of days, while others might wait a month or longer. In general, review time for properly submitted records depends on the coordinator's workload and the difficulty of the identification. Please be patient. All of the coordinators are volunteers, and they will review your sighting. On average, about 2,000 sightings are reviewed each month.
Caterpillar submissions pose a particularly difficult problem because most of the larval stages of butterflies and moths are simply unknown. If you have submitted a photograph of a caterpillar that is not a common species, it may take many months to be identified, if at all.
Some internet service providers do not deliver the automatic e-mails to our users. We have been working hard to make sure that all e-mails are delivered, but if you are waiting for an identification, please be sure to log in and go to your My BAMONA page to check on the status of your submission.
